Taboo: Sex

Synopsis:
What is sex, why is it taboo? Countries all around the world have different views, from conservative views and saving themselves for marriage, all the way to fathers building 'love huts' for their daughters as young as 9-13. We look at father as safe guards, protecting their sons and daughters virginity, not promoters. In Cambodia, members of the Kreung tribe in the northeast of the country believe that girls can be empowered by spending the night with different members of the opposite sex. The Love Huts even have condom. Although they are usually closed off from the world, Nang Chan, a 17-year-old girl who now lives in her love hut instead of her parent's house, believes they offer her, and other girls like her, a sense of empowerment. There is a surprising low amount of rapes and domestic violence. It is, in fact rare. A girl invites them to her hut, if she has intentions for sexual intercourse then she learns about his past. If he is a lazy ignorant boy then she will not. But if the boy is strong, hardworking, and handsome, then she will. As you can imagine they marry young, although for life.

Analysis:
Wow, I don't quite believe what I just found out. I actually found out a while ago while I was watching Taboo, but just rereading it is crazy. How can a father just let his daughter have sex, and actually build a house for her to do that!?! I mean I understand having parents tell their kids not to have sex in their house, because it's a bit disrespectful, but going as far as to build one is just insane. I can't agrue with the fact that there is almost no rape or violence, but how can sex just be treated with almost disrespect? Whether or not you are for or against sex before marriage, don't you think it should be some special. At the very least!
